Completing her medical degree in Pakistan in 1981, Dr Alphonsa first worked for 6 months in gynaecology and obstetrics in a major hospital in Karachi before moving into a leprosy centre where she worked for 16 years. In this centre, Dr Alphonsa was responsible for looking after female lepers and their families, as well as the centre staff and their families.
After moving to Australia in 2000, Dr Alphonsa did 3 years of hospital HMO rotations, including 6 months in gynaecology/obstetrics in Dandenong hospital and then 6 months in Psychology at Monash Clayton. In 2009, Dr Alphonsa received her fellowship from the RACGP
AEarly on in Dr Alphonsa’s training, she realised women’s health does not get enough attention, especially in the third world country that she belonged to.
Since then, Dr Alphonsa has developed a passion for looking after women’s physical and mental health.
Outside of medicine, you can find Dr Alphonsa travelling and exploring Australian outback and spending time with her loving husband, 4 beautiful children and 2 precious grandchildren
